Foal creep pellets are a complementary feed intended for foals that are not receiving enough milk, whether this is because the mare isn’t producing enough, or because the foal is an orphan.
The aim of the creep pellets is to top up the nutrients that the mare’s milk should provide. They usually contain some or all of the following:
- Protein and amino acids
- Milk
- Vitamins
- Digestible cereals /grains
- Minerals
- Probiotics and yeast
Foals grow quickly and have a high nutritional demand. However at around 3-5 weeks into lactation, mineral levels drop off in the mare’s milk. Feeding foal creep pellets means that the essential nutrients needed can still be included in the foal’s diet at this time. The pellets are designed to support and complement the foal’s digestive system and support their growth and development, whilst also providing the nutrients and calories that they require at this stage of their lives.
Foal creep pellets are also good for foals that lack in condition or are in need of more nutritional support for medical reasons.
